Major League Client Alumni
Since my career as a players' agent began in 1974, I've represented dozens of players. Many of them never made it to the Majors. The following "alumni" all did.

"After 18 years working together with David Sloane, I can say that I know this guy pretty well. We go back to 1992 when I was in single A, we have come a long way since.
We've been through thick and thin and he has always been there with good advice and has always been very supportive.
This is a guy that will put forth his best effort every day to find the best for his client, he is as fair as you would want anybody to be with you. Definitely a true professional, regardless of whether he is negotiating the highest paid contract in the Big Leagues or a short stint in the Puerto Rico Winter League…he has done both for me!
He is smart, knowledgeable, pays attention to details and that makes him a great agent but above all that, he is a great guy. That is why I consider David a friend."

I chose David Sloane to be my agent back in 1978 when I was just getting involved with baseball at the major league level. He and I worked together for 7 years until my retirement in the spring of 1984.
During that time I experienced the full spectrum when it came to baseball situations. David helped me get through yearly contract negotiations, one arbitration, one hold out, being a free agent, and getting released (five times). What impressed me most was that in each instance I felt that I was getting David's best effort.
That's how David Sloane operates. I felt that the amount of attention he offered was the same regardless of my situation. I was a 16 game winner and and an opening day pitcher. Unfortunately, I was also released numerous times. Through it all David was a consistent presence who I could depend upon.
Now if you want a rah-rah, kiss your butt, what have you done for me lately type of agent to represent you, then you need to skip by Mr. Sloane. But if you want to be represented by an intelligent, professional, and tenacious individual who is also honest to a fault then you need to get in touch with David.
Thirty years ago he was my agent. Today he is my friend. If you have any questions regarding David he has permission to give you my number.

"I first met David Sloane around 10 years ago, while I was a 17 year old High School baseball player looking for a possible advisor/agent for myself for the upcoming MLB draft. After meeting with 10+ agents, my family and I felt comfortbale choosing David, due to his strong professional manner and very friendly persona.
After deciding to not sign a pro contract that year, I headed off to college, thinking that was the last I'd hear from him until I was eligble for the draft again. Pleasantly surprised, I found myself keeping in touch with David through the years, which showed me how much he cared about me as a player and person.
When the time came-around my junior year and the draft, I knew with no question in my mind that he was the man I wanted representing me in the Profesional ranks.
In my 6+ years in pro baseball, I have been 100% satisfied with David's contributions to myself and my career. He is truly a professional who would do anything for his clients. I have heard from people around the game that he is well respected by his peers. All my equipment requests have been met, and his advice has been very helpful to me, whether dealing with on or off the field issues.
Not only is he my agent, but he is someone I talk to during most holidays and someone my family considers a family friend. That's what I look for in an agent, someone who will represent you the right way, not the crooked way many agents are doing these days. I would highly recomemend David Sloane to any young players who are looking for representation."

Red Sox make waiver claim on righty Fox
By Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com | 09/09/10 4:49 PM ET
The Red Sox claimed right-hander Matt Fox off waivers from the Twins on Thursday, and transferred outfielder Mike Cameron to the 60-day disabled list in order to make room on the 40-man roster.
Fox made his Major League debut in a start on Friday, giving up two runs in a 5 2/3-inning no-decision against the Rangers. The 27-year-old previously appeared in 35 games (21 starts) with Minnesota's Triple-A affiliate in Rochester, going 6-9 while pacing Red Wings starters with a 3.95 ERA and recording a team-high 104 strikeouts.
A supplemental first-round Draft pick by the Twins in 2004, Fox is 35-28 with a 3.71 ERA and a 2.54 strikeout-to-walk ratio in six Minor League seasons. He'll likely find a role in the Red Sox's bullpen, which has been rather thin recently.

David Sloane - "The best agent and friend a player could have"
(click on the letter to read it)
By Associated Press, 11/14/2003
While Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein is working on acquiring a new closer for the 2004 season -- top targets include free agents Keith Foulke and Eddie Guardado -- he came to terms with righthanded setup man Mike Timlin, who was, for the most part, a model of consistency last season and unhittable during the postseason.
Timlin, who will be 38 next season, told agent David Sloane he preferred re-signing with Boston than going on the open market. He agreed to a one-year deal for the 2004 season for $2.5 million, plus a club option for $2.7 million for the 2005 season that will automatically vest if Timlin meets performance incentives.
Those incentives mirror those of lefthanded setup man Alan Embree, who signed a deal last November that paid him a base salary of $2.75 million last season and will pay him the same amount in 2004. Embree's $3 million option in 2005 will vest, as will Timlin's option, if he appears in 50 games and is not on the disabled list at the end of the 2004 season.
The performance incentive should be within reach for Timlin, who appeared in 72 games in each of the last two seasons. Last season, his first with the Sox, he was 6-4 with two saves and a 3.55 ERA.

"After having to cut ties with my first agent, I had the good fortune of being hooked up with David through a teammate. As a rookie level player at the time, David talked to me as if I were any one of his big league clients. Whenever I need something he gets it done. Very quick, honest and hard working I value David very much as my agent and also as a good friend"

"I have only been using David as my agent for a short time now but I feel confident that he is always going to do what he can to help me be successful in my career. He was referred to me by a close friend, Joe Torres, whom has been very pleased with David’s work throughout the years. David has been very prompt at responding to my text or phone calls since we have been working together. I feel comfortable having David represent me off the field, which makes it easier for me to do what I need to do on the field."
